By the end of June and July, these two bookstores will close their doors after fifteen years of business:
The first bookstore, Latitude 33 in Laguna Beach, will be closing its store by august stating a decline in sales and competition from Amazon. They have been in Business for fifteen years providing that community with new books for beach reads.
The second bookstore, Pacific Palisades Village Books in LA County, will be closing its doors June 30th. They have been in business for the past 14 years and have had many celebrity authors and actors support their business.
We here at Mathom House Books are very sad to see great independent bookstores close under the weight the economy and Amazon. We are seeing people flock to Amazon because of their predatory, lower than cost, pricing (just to save a dollar or two) and we are hoping that they will start think twice about who they support.
Thank you so much to the people who support the local businesses of their communities. Small business like ours thrive on the recommendations of those who frequent independent business. We would not be here if it wasn't for this type of support.
Thank you
